A little history lesson:
Herman Goering at the Nuremberg Trials
Göring: Why, of course, the people don't want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece. Naturally, the common people don't want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.
Gilbert: There is one difference. In a democracy, the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.
Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
Sounds familiar doesn't it Mr Ainsworth ?"

  1. I just read that article in the New Stateman. What an arse that guy is. Invading Afghanistan and Iraq is what caused the terrorist element to be imported into the USA and Europe (particularly the UK). It is what has caused extremism and the invocation of Sharia Law in the Western World.

Sending our troops to a war which had fuckall to do with us in the first place is immoral. Our army are there to defend the realm or to help defend an allies territory, not to invade foreign countries on a dossier of lies!

I think the British Public have never been so supportive of our armed services as now (thanks to the Luton fiasco) and everyone is fighting for them to get proper equipment and some home comforts to make their tours easier.

Insofar as being a democracy, what utter bullshit! If we had had a referendum on whether to go to war with the Middle East, you can bet your life, the British Public would have said a resounding NO!

  2. Sorry off topic but have you seen this OR?

I can't understand either. Guess who gets my vote.

  3. Well said Sue, we know what the main purpose of one world religions is: to selfishly imprison women in a subservient and subordinate life, for the sole benefit of lecherous men, making them wear clothing that takes away every shred of individuality and dignity, applying inhumane punishments to those that don't submit to the will of man.

That's not what our national faith or culture is about. Thank goodness the French have got some balls to deal with it.
